Renewable energy growth continues as storage and grid upgrades take priority

BRUSSELS — Renewable energy deployment continued to expand across major economies as governments paired new solar and wind installations with increased investment in battery storage and grid modernization, reinforcing the global transition toward cleaner electricity, Feb. 11, 2026.

Solar power remained the dominant source of new electricity capacity additions, supported by steady declines in equipment costs and improved project financing conditions. Wind energy projects, particularly offshore developments in Europe and Asia, also advanced amid energy security concerns.

Policymakers are increasingly focusing on transmission infrastructure and grid-scale storage to manage variable renewable output. Energy regulators say modernized grids and flexible markets are critical to preventing congestion and maintaining system reliability as renewable penetration rises.

Several governments introduced measures aimed at accelerating project approvals and expanding domestic manufacturing capacity for solar modules, wind turbines and battery components. Industry analysts note that supply chain diversification has become a strategic priority.

Emerging markets are also scaling up renewable programs to meet growing electricity demand while limiting exposure to volatile fossil fuel prices. Multilateral development banks and climate finance institutions have increased support for hybrid renewable-storage projects.

Despite strong momentum, experts caution that land-use challenges, skilled labor shortages and infrastructure bottlenecks could slow deployment if not addressed. Still, renewable energy is widely viewed as central to long-term climate goals, economic resilience and national energy strategies.
