India Considering Smart Solar Load Balancing Program for 2026 to Improve Rooftop Wiring Safety & Reduce Overload Events
By SolSetu News Desk
India is evaluating a new rooftop safety initiative called the Smart Solar Load Balancing Program (SSLBP-2026), aimed at reducing household wiring overloads that occur when rooftop solar and grid supply operate simultaneously. Officials familiar with the discussion told SolSetu that the program will include smart load controllers and AI-based current monitoring that automatically distributes power across circuits to prevent overheating.
With rising rooftop solar adoption across residential areas, the risk of load imbalance—especially in older homes with weak wiring—has increased significantly.
Why SSLBP-2026 Is Needed
Homeowners commonly face issues such as:
- Overheating of wires when solar + grid loads combine unexpectedly
- MCB tripping during midday high-generation periods
- Unbalanced distribution of loads across phases
- Air-conditioner and induction appliances stressing circuits
- Rising fire risks in buildings with outdated electrical systems
The new program aims to make rooftop solar systems safer and more compatible with varying consumption patterns.
Proposed Features Under SSLBP-2026
The program may introduce:
- Smart load controller devices installed near distribution boards
- AI-based load prediction using solar generation & consumption data
- Real-time current balancing across circuits
- Heat-sensor alerts for overloaded wiring
- Automatic switching between solar, grid & hybrid modes
- Mobile app to track circuit-wise load & temperature
The system will be compatible with both on-grid and hybrid inverters.
Benefits for Consumers
- Lower fire risk due to balanced current flow
- Prolonged life of home wiring and MCBs
- Improved inverter performance during peak generation
- Reduced chances of voltage drops & flickering
- Better management of heavy appliances like ACs & heaters
Experts say the program could significantly enhance rooftop solar safety in dense residential clusters.
Pilot Testing Expected in Late 2026
The government may begin testing SSLBP-2026 in:
- Maharashtra
- Gujarat
- Karnataka
- Tamil Nadu
- Delhi NCR
A national rollout could follow after integrating smart controllers with DISCOM systems.
SolSetu will continue reporting updates as SSLBP-2026 moves into technical evaluation stages.
