Government Plans National Rooftop Solar Installation Quality Score for 2026 to Boost Consumer Confidence
Government Plans National Rooftop Solar Installation Quality Score for 2026 to Boost Consumer Confidence
By SolSetu News Desk
The Government of India is working on a national Rooftop Solar Installation Quality Score (IQS-2026) to help consumers quickly evaluate the quality of solar projects installed across the country. Officials involved in the framework told SolSetu that the scoring system will make it easier for households to choose reliable installers and avoid poor-quality workmanship.
The scoring system will assign each installation a rating between 1 and 5 stars, based on a standardized quality checklist verified during site inspection and commissioning.
What the New Quality Score Will Measure
The IQS-2026 framework will evaluate key technical parameters, including:
- Panel mounting structure strength
- DC wiring quality and conduit protection
- Earthing and surge protection installation
- Inverter placement and ventilation
- Shading analysis accuracy
- Compliance with BIS standards
- Overall workmanship quality
Scores will be uploaded to a national dashboard accessible to both consumers and DISCOMs.
Why This Matters for Consumers
As residential installations rise rapidly, many consumers struggle to judge whether their system has been installed correctly. A national Installation Quality Score will:
- Increase transparency and trust
- Reduce disputes between customers and installers
- Improve long-term system performance
- Lower inverter and wiring-related failures
- Promote professional installation practices
Experts say the framework will help raise industry-wide standards nationwide.
Rollout Plan for 2026
The Quality Score may be implemented first in:
- Gujarat
- Maharashtra
- Rajasthan
- Karnataka
- Tamil Nadu
Nationwide rollout may follow later in 2026 after pilot evaluations.
SolSetu will continue providing updates as the government finalizes scoring parameters and deployment timelines.
