GENEVA — Renewable energy deployment continued to accelerate worldwide as governments paired new solar installations with investments in power grids and energy storage systems, reinforcing the global shift toward cleaner electricity, Feb. 10, 2026.
Solar power led new electricity capacity additions, supported by declining equipment costs and shorter construction timelines. Wind energy also expanded steadily, complementing solar generation across multiple regions.
Policymakers increasingly emphasized transmission upgrades and grid-scale battery storage to manage variable renewable output. Energy planners say modernized grids are essential to prevent congestion and ensure reliable supply.
Several countries announced reforms aimed at reducing permitting delays and improving grid access for solar projects. Developing economies are also expanding renewable programs to meet rising demand while limiting fossil fuel imports.
Analysts warn that workforce shortages and infrastructure bottlenecks could slow progress if not addressed. Still, renewable energy remains central to long-term climate strategy, economic growth and energy security.
