India May Launch Unified Rooftop Solar Inspection App for Faster Approvals in 2026

India may soon introduce a Unified Rooftop Solar Inspection App that could drastically reduce approval delays and streamline the entire rooftop solar process nationwide. Sources told SolSetu that the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is reviewing the proposal for launch in early 2026.

This move comes at a time when rooftop solar demand is hitting record levels, but approval timelines vary widely between states. A unified inspection app could help eliminate paperwork, improve transparency, and allow real-time status tracking for consumers.

What the New App May Include

Early drafts suggest several powerful features:

  • Live tracking of feasibility approvals
  • AI-based verification of rooftop photos & inverter serial numbers
  • DISCOM engineer scheduling within the app
  • GPS-based inspection verification
  • A single national dashboard for consumers and installers
  • Instant push notifications for approval status

If implemented, this may become India’s most important upgrade to the rooftop solar workflow since the launch of the national solar subsidy portal.

Why It Matters Now

Rooftop applications increased sharply in 2025, crossing new records in states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. However, many consumers still face delays ranging from 15 to 45 days for inspection scheduling and approval.

Installers also say inconsistent documentation requirements between states create unnecessary friction. A unified digital system could simplify the process nationwide.

Pilot Rollout Expected in 2026

Industry insiders believe the new app may first roll out in five major states:

  • Maharashtra
  • Rajasthan
  • Gujarat
  • Karnataka
  • Delhi

Based on pilot results, the platform may be expanded nationally by late 2026.

Impact on Consumers & Installers

If the new inspection app becomes operational, homeowners could get faster approvals, better visibility, and fewer repeated inspections. Installers may benefit from predictable scheduling and reduced documentation errors.

SolSetu will continue tracking the proposal and share updates as MNRE finalizes the digital framework.
