India Developing Solar Warranty Verification Portal for 2026 to Curb Fake Warranty Cards and OEM Fraud
By SolSetu News Desk
The Government of India is building a national Solar Warranty Verification Portal (SWVP-2026) to help consumers, installers, and DISCOMs instantly verify whether solar panels, inverters, and batteries carry genuine OEM warranties. Officials working with the Ministry confirmed to SolSetu that the portal will digitally validate warranty claims and help eliminate the rising problem of fake warranty cards in the rooftop solar market.
With rooftop solar adoption growing, unverified components and counterfeit warranties have become a key challenge for both consumers and manufacturers.
What the Solar Warranty Verification Portal Will Do
According to early draft details, the SWVP-2026 will include:
- QR-code based warranty validation for all rooftop components
- Serial number matching with OEM databases
- Consumer dashboard showing warranty length & claim history
- Installation date & commissioning records
- Anti-fraud alerts for duplicate or fake warranty uploads
- OEM approval workflows for warranty replacement
- Technician authenticity verification for service visits
This will serve as India’s most trusted warranty authentication ecosystem for the solar sector.
Why the Portal Is Needed
INCERT and industry associations identified several growing issues:
- Counterfeit inverter warranty cards
- Reprinted solar panel warranties with altered dates
- Installers issuing “local” warranties not backed by OEM
- Panels sold without genuine batch IDs
- Consumers unable to verify warranty status after installer closure
The government aims to make rooftop solar safer and more transparent for consumers.
Expected Rollout
The SWVP-2026 pilot is expected to begin in mid-2026 across:
- Gujarat
- Karnataka
- Maharashtra
- Tamil Nadu
- Delhi NCR
Nationwide rollout may follow after OEM integrations are complete.
SolSetu will share updates as the warranty verification architecture is finalized.
