India May Introduce AI-Based Solar Warranty Compliance Tracking Network in 2026 to Protect Consumers From Service Delays

India is evaluating a national-level digital system known as the Solar Warranty Compliance Tracking Network (SWCTN-2026), which will use artificial intelligence to monitor whether solar installers and EPC companies are honoring warranty commitments on time. A senior official told SolSetu that the measure is being discussed after a significant rise in consumer complaints related to delayed repairs, inverter failures, and unresponsive vendors.

The initiative aims to create a transparent and accountable service ecosystem for residential and commercial solar customers across India.

Why SWCTN-2026 Is Being Considered

Over the past two years, DISCOMs and state renewable departments have noted several recurring issues:

  • Vendors not responding to service requests within promised timelines
  • Inverters failing within 1–3 years but replacements getting delayed
  • Lack of proof of warranty coverage in older installations
  • Consumers unable to track whether their issues were escalated
  • No nationwide system to identify frequently defaulting vendors

The proposed SWCTN-2026 will centralize all service-related data for better monitoring.

How the AI-Based Tracking System May Work

According to preliminary discussions, the network could feature:

  • AI-driven ticket verification to detect delays or incomplete resolutions
  • Vendor rating updates based on warranty compliance
  • Digital proof of service with technician authentication
  • Automated consumer updates on repair status
  • Penalty triggers for vendors who repeatedly delay service
  • Analytics dashboard for DISCOMs and state energy departments

The system may be integrated with solar subsidy portals to ensure unified tracking.

Benefits for Consumers

  • Faster resolution of warranty claims
  • Live updates on technician visits and repairs
  • Protection against unresponsive vendors
  • Better long-term system performance
  • Transparent warranty records stored digitally

Benefits for the Solar Industry

  • Higher consumer trust
  • Improved vendor accountability
  • Recognition for vendors with strong service performance
  • Reduced disputes between consumers and installers

Pilot States Under Consideration

The pilot rollout may begin in:

  • Tamil Nadu
  • Gujarat
  • Delhi NCR
  • Karnataka
  • Punjab

Officials say the focus will be on states with high concentrations of rooftop solar installations.

SolSetu will continue tracking developments as SWCTN-2026 moves closer to consultation and pilot implementation.
