India May Launch Solar Repair & Warranty Digital Passport in 2026 to Track Rooftop Components Across Their Lifecycle
India May Launch Solar Repair & Warranty Digital Passport in 2026 to Track Rooftop Components Across Their Lifecycle
By SolSetu News Desk
The Government of India is considering the introduction of a Solar Repair & Warranty Digital Passport (SRWDP-2026), a unified digital system that would store the complete repair, warranty, and service history of rooftop solar installations. Officials familiar with the proposal told SolSetu that the initiative aims to boost transparency, reduce warranty fraud, and track the lifecycle of solar components across households nationwide.
With India’s rooftop solar demand at an all-time high, maintaining system health and ensuring warranty compliance has become increasingly challenging for consumers and EPC companies. The SRWDP-2026 system seeks to solve these issues with a digital-first approach.
Why a Solar Digital Passport Is Needed
Thousands of consumers have reported issues such as:
- Difficulty tracking warranty coverage for panels & inverters
- Loss of paper-based warranty documents
- Conflicts with installers over repair eligibility
- No visibility into past maintenance work
- Duplicate warranty claims by third-party installers
The digital passport would offer a single, secure system for documenting component history from installation to end-of-life.
Key Features Being Evaluated
According to early framework notes, the SRWDP-2026 may include:
- QR-coded passport ID for each rooftop solar system
- Digitally logged warranty details for panels, inverters, batteries, and BOS
- Service & repair history timeline visible to homeowners
- OEM-integrated verification to reduce fraudulent claims
- AI-based alerts when components approach the end of warranty
- Installer authentication via registered digital IDs
- Transferable passport during resale of property
If implemented, it would be India’s first nationwide digital registry for solar lifecycle management.
Benefits for Consumers & Installers
The digital passport offers multiple advantages, including:
- Centralized record-keeping for all solar components
- Transparent repair and service documentation
- Faster warranty claim approvals
- Trust-building between installers and customers
- Reduced disputes over expired or invalid warranties
Consumers will no longer need to manage multiple documents manually — everything will be stored in a secure digital record.
Pilot Rollout in 2026
The initiative may first be introduced in states with high rooftop density, including:
- Gujarat
- Maharashtra
- Delhi NCR
- Tamil Nadu
- Karnataka
A national rollout is expected once OEM integration is completed and installer training modules are deployed.
SolSetu will continue monitoring the progress of the proposed Solar Repair & Warranty Digital Passport throughout 2026.
