India May Introduce Solar Installer Rating System 2.0 to Improve Rooftop Quality in 2026
By SolSetu News Desk
India may soon upgrade its existing rooftop installer evaluation framework with a new Solar Installer Rating System 2.0 aimed at improving installation quality, safety compliance, and long-term system performance. Industry sources told SolSetu that MNRE is reviewing the proposal for rollout in 2026.
The new system would assign performance-based ratings to rooftop installers across states, helping consumers choose reliable vendors as rooftop demand skyrockets under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
What Solar Installer Rating 2.0 May Include
Early discussions indicate that installer ratings may be based on:
- Quality of rooftop installations (verified through inspections)
- Customer satisfaction feedback
- Compliance with safety & wiring standards
- Use of certified components (panels, inverters, isolators)
- Response time for service & warranty claims
- Installer training and certification status
- Project completion timelines
The system may generate a public rating score displayed on state portals and the national solar dashboard.
Why this Move Matters Now
As rooftop solar grows rapidly, many consumers face difficulties selecting trustworthy installers due to inconsistent service quality. A unified national rating could increase accountability and remove low-quality players from the market.
A senior MNRE advisor told SolSetu, “The new rating system will reward high-performing installers and ensure consumers get safer and more reliable rooftop systems.”
How It May Affect Installers
Installers with higher ratings may receive:
- Priority listing on state portals
- Faster approval processing
- Better consumer trust & business growth
Low-rated installers may be required to undergo re-training or compliance checks.
Expected Rollout Timeline
The project may be launched in phases starting mid-2026. States with the highest rooftop adoption—Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Delhi—are expected to adopt the new framework early.
SolSetu will continue monitoring this development and publish updates as MNRE finalizes the rating design.
