India Developing Solar Energy Savings Forecast Engine for 2026 to Help Households Estimate Long-Term Rooftop Solar Benefits

The Government of India is developing a new digital system called the Solar Energy Savings Forecast Engine (SESFE-2026), designed to help households estimate long-term financial benefits from rooftop solar installations. Officials familiar with the project told SolSetu that the engine will use historical climate data, tariff trends, panel degradation models, and consumption patterns to generate accurate cost-saving predictions.

The system is being planned as a standardized national calculator for both new and existing rooftop solar consumers.

Why SESFE-2026 Is Being Developed

Many consumers find it difficult to calculate:

  • Real monthly savings from solar
  • Impact of rising electricity tariffs
  • Effect of panel degradation over 20–25 years
  • Seasonal variations in generation
  • Accurate payback period

The new forecast engine addresses all of these challenges.

How the Solar Savings Forecast Engine Will Work

According to early design drafts, SESFE-2026 may include:

  • AI-based generation prediction using regional irradiation data
  • Dynamic tariff simulation for all state DISCOMs
  • Accurate payback period analysis
  • Panel degradation modeling for 20–30 years
  • Subsidy-adjusted ROI calculator
  • Seasonal gain/loss projections
  • Comparison mode for different system capacities

Users will be able to access forecasts on mobile and web portals.

Benefits for Homeowners

Once implemented, SESFE-2026 will help consumers:

  • Understand true lifetime savings from rooftop solar
  • Choose the right system size for their consumption
  • Estimate yearly financial benefits
  • Plan future upgrades like batteries or higher capacity
  • Make informed decisions about installation timing

Industry experts believe this tool will significantly boost solar adoption by enabling transparent financial expectations.

Pilot Launch Expected in 2026

Initial pilot testing may start in:

  • Maharashtra
  • Gujarat
  • Karnataka
  • Tamil Nadu
  • Delhi NCR

A nationwide launch may follow after calibration across climate zones.

SolSetu will continue covering updates as SESFE-2026 moves closer to deployment.
