India May Launch National Solar Warranty Registry to Standardize Rooftop System Guarantees in 2026
By SolSetu News Desk
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is evaluating the introduction of a National Solar Warranty Registry in 2026 to streamline, track, and standardize warranty claims for rooftop solar systems across India.
The initiative aims to eliminate inconsistencies in warranty fulfilment by manufacturers and installers, especially as rooftop installations continue to rise rapidly under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
Why India Needs a Warranty Registry
Consumers frequently face challenges in warranty claims due to unclear documentation, missing invoices, or installers shutting operations after commissioning projects.
A senior official involved in the proposal told SolSetu: “A centralized registry will help consumers, installers, and manufacturers maintain clear, verified records of warranties for solar panels, inverters, structures, and other components.”
How the Proposed System May Work
Early drafts indicate the registry could include:
- Online registration of all rooftop solar warranties
- QR-coded digital warranty certificates
- Tracking of manufacturer and installer performance
- Unified platform for filing warranty claims
- Automatic reminders for warranty expirations
- Verification of replacement history and service logs
The system may eventually integrate with DISCOM portals and national solar databases.
Benefits for Consumers
The registry is expected to bring greater transparency and accountability in rooftop installations. Consumers will be able to track warranty validity, claim status, and service history through a unified digital platform.
Solar EPC companies also believe the move will reduce disputes and improve consumer confidence in long-term solar performance.
Possible Rollout Timeline
The National Solar Warranty Registry may be launched in phases starting late 2026, with initial implementation in states experiencing the highest number of rooftop installations.
SolSetu will continue monitoring policy developments and publish updates as MNRE finalizes the framework.
