Saudi Arabia and Türkiye Sign $2 Billion Mega-Deal to Develop 5,000 MW Solar Capacity
Saudi Arabia–Türkiye Mega-Deal Unlocks 5,000 MW Solar Expansion in Türkiye
By Girish | February 6, 2026
Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have entered into a landmark $2 billion renewable energy agreement to develop 5,000 megawatts (MW) of solar power capacity across Türkiye, marking one of the largest cross-border solar investments ever undertaken in the region.
The agreement, signed on February 6, 2026, signals a major step forward in regional clean energy cooperation and strengthens both nations’ long-term renewable energy strategies.
Powering Over Two Million Households
Once fully commissioned, the solar projects are expected to generate enough electricity to supply more than 2 million households. Development will take place in multiple phases, with large utility-scale solar plants deployed across high-irradiance regions of Türkiye.
Energy experts note that projects of this scale can significantly reduce carbon emissions, lower reliance on fossil fuels, and enhance long-term energy security.
Strategic Cross-Border Energy Collaboration
The Saudi–Türkiye partnership reflects a growing trend of cross-border renewable investments, where international capital and expertise are combined to accelerate clean power deployment in high-growth electricity markets.
For Saudi Arabia, the deal aligns with its broader objective to diversify energy investments globally. For Türkiye, it supports national goals to expand renewable capacity, stabilise electricity prices, and reduce dependence on imported energy.
Economic and Industrial Impact
Beyond electricity generation, the solar programme is expected to create jobs across engineering, construction, and operations, while also stimulating technology transfer and strengthening local supply chains.
Analysts say large-scale international solar agreements such as this send strong signals to global markets, reinforcing investor confidence in renewable energy as a long-term infrastructure asset.
Accelerating Regional Clean Energy Momentum
The $2 billion Saudi–Türkiye solar agreement highlights the accelerating momentum of renewable energy deployment across the Middle East and Eurasia. As countries pursue decarbonisation alongside energy security, cross-border solar partnerships are expected to play a critical role in the next phase of global clean energy growth.
With project execution expected to begin in the near term, the initiative positions both nations as key contributors to the regional and global solar energy transition.
