According to internal discussions reviewed by SolSetu, MNRE and BIS may soon mandate digital verification of each solar panel before rooftop installation.

The move comes as rooftop demand accelerates and reports of non-BIS panels entering the market raise quality and safety concerns.

• Non-certified panels sold as BIS-approved
• Mismatched model numbers
• Panels with erased or duplicate serial numbers

Early drafts indicate the system may include:

• QR-code scanning of each solar module
• Instant validation against a national MNRE database
• Manufacturer authenticity check

• Alerts for duplicate or invalid serial numbers

Installers would be required to upload verification proof before commissioning the system.
