India May Introduce Solar Rooftop AMC Standardization Policy in 2026 to Reduce System Failures
By SolSetu News Desk
India is reviewing a proposal to introduce a nationwide Solar Rooftop AMC Standardization Policy in 2026 to reduce system breakdowns, increase safety, and ensure consistent maintenance quality across the country. Sources told SolSetu that MNRE is studying patterns of inverter failures, wiring issues, and low-performance complaints over the last two years.
The proposed policy aims to protect homeowners from inconsistent maintenance charges and irregular service practices that currently vary widely among EPC companies.
Why AMC Standardization Is Needed Now
As rooftop installations accelerate, many systems begin showing early performance drops due to lack of regular cleaning, wiring checks, and preventive maintenance. Consumers often get AMC quotes ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹10,000 per year with no clear guidelines.
A senior official shared with SolSetu, “A standardized national AMC structure will lower failures, increase system life, and improve customer confidence in rooftop solar investments.”
What the AMC Policy May Include
Early drafts indicate the policy may introduce mandatory:
- Annual health check-ups for rooftop systems
- Standard AMC pricing slabs based on system size
- Mandatory cleaning cycle recommendations
- Dielectric & earthing resistance testing
- Inverter firmware update checks
- Digital AMC certificate generation
- Technician service rating integration
This could transform rooftop performance management nationwide.
How Consumers May Benefit
If implemented, homeowners will receive:
- Predictable AMC pricing
- Better inverter performance
- Lower long-term system maintenance costs
- Reduced downtime and energy losses
- Verified service records linked to their solar system
The uniform AMC framework could also help DISCOMs track system health and improve net-metering efficiency.
Expected Rollout Timeline
The AMC Standardization Policy may launch by late 2026, beginning with metro cities and high-adoption states before expanding nationwide.
SolSetu will continue providing updates as MNRE finalizes the guidelines.
